Concurring the world, one ‘we’ at a time

This week has been an exciting week as I’ve completed my Master of Arts (Leadership) degree. Through all of the excitement, I continually bump up against the question — “a leader of what?”    At first, I was taken back by this question. I then recognize that others may not have considered some gaps in today's leadership approaches. The lack of commitment for the greater good. The desire of many to let money trump the human sole.

The leaders who focus on now without understanding the impact of tomorrow.

The world is changing at an increasing pace so it seems that leaders that can change are those that will help guide tomorrow. Without an understanding of how tightly the world is connected through digital and where these new connections will evolve first, it will be important for each of us to embrace options with an open mind and recognize that change is no longer orchestrated by one leader but choreographed by many.

Although I’m still investigating which of my passions (technology, healthy kids, developing countries, skating) is going to dominate over the next couple of decades, our keynote address at my convocation— one of the great thinkers of today, Peter Senge – summed it up beautifully, it is about the ‘we’.

When we remove the attention of ourselves and to the ‘we’ in the world, this life (and the life of my children and grandchildren) will be amazing!  You definitely don’t need a degree to feel the warmth that embracing the ‘we’ will have in your life. So I will extend the challenge to you — embrace the ‘we’ and let the world unfold before you.

Be open to the journey - so all aspects of the journey bloom!
